LoL Itemization Guide 2026 — Mythics, Components, Build Paths
Itemization wins games more than mechanics past Silver. The wrong Mythic on Yasuo loses you 4,000 effective damage over a fight. The right defensive item against an Akali turns a 100-0 burst into a 90-50 survive-then-kill trade. This guide breaks down Mythic item choices per role, component spike timing, and the situational defensives every LoL player needs.
How Mythic Items work — the 1-item meta
Mythic Items are the cornerstone of LoL itemization. You can only own one at a time. Each Mythic passive scales with subsequent Legendary items, so the wrong Mythic compounds over your entire build.
- Mythic = your build identity. Stridebreaker on Camille is bruiser-engage; Eclipse is burst-assassin. Different champions, different Mythics.
- Mythic passive scales per Legendary. Each subsequent item adds bonus stats from the Mythic's passive.
- Buy Mythic by component priority. Don't buy it first. Buy components (BF Sword, Pickaxe, Sapphire Crystal) until you can complete the Mythic with the recall gold.
Top lane Mythic choice — Stridebreaker vs Eclipse vs Trinity
- Stridebreaker — Bruiser. Camille, Darius, Sett. Movement speed + slow + bonus damage.
- Eclipse — Burst bruiser/assassin. Renekton, Pantheon. Spell-shield-piercing damage spikes.
- Trinity Force — Flex bruiser. Irelia, Jax, Camille. Sheen procs + AS + movement speed.
- Goredrinker — Sustained bruiser. Darius (old build), Trundle. Heal-on-damage in fights.
Choose by champion archetype: Stridebreaker for movement-heavy bruisers, Eclipse for burst, Trinity for sustained DPS, Goredrinker for sustain.
Jungle Mythic choice — Eclipse vs Ravenous Hydra vs Sunfire
- Eclipse — Assassin jungle. Kha'Zix, Lee Sin. Burst damage spikes.
- Stridebreaker — Engage jungler. Hecarim. Movement speed + AoE slow.
- Sunfire Aegis — Tank jungle. Sejuani, Maokai. AoE damage + defensive stats.
- Goredrinker — Sustain jungler. Warwick. Heal-on-damage.
Mid Mage Mythic choice — Luden's vs Liandry's vs Riftmaker
- Luden's Companion — Burst mage. Syndra, Ahri, Lux. Big damage on cooldown spells.
- Liandry's Anguish — Sustained mage. Zyra, Ryze. DoT damage on champions.
- Everfrost — Control mage. Lissandra, Anivia. Frost field utility.
- Riftmaker — Bruiser mage. Sylas, Mordekaiser. Omnivamp + bonus damage.
Choose by playstyle: Luden's for burst combos, Liandry's for sustained damage, Everfrost for CC, Riftmaker for hybrid bruiser play.
ADC Mythic choice — Galeforce vs Kraken Slayer vs Yun Tal Wildarrows
- Galeforce — Mobile ADC. Caitlyn, Lucian. Dash gap-closer + AoE damage.
- Kraken Slayer — Hyper-carry. Jinx, Vayne. 3rd auto true damage.
- Yun Tal Wildarrows — Crit ADC. Jhin. Crit scaling bonus.
- Immortal Shieldbow — Bursty ADC. Twitch, Tristana. Bonus shield + omnivamp.
For solo Q ADC at low elo: Galeforce on mobile carries, Kraken Slayer on scaling hyper-carries. Yun Tal Wildarrows is Jhin-specific.
Support Mythic choice — Moonstone vs Locket vs Shurelya's
- Moonstone Renewer — Enchanter peel. Lulu, Janna, Soraka. Continuous team healing.
- Locket of the Iron Solari — Engage tank support. Leona, Nautilus, Thresh. Bonus team shield.
- Shurelya's Battlesong — Roaming support. Pyke, Senna. Active speed boost.
- Imperial Mandate — Damage support. Lux, Karma. Mark + ally damage boost.
Defensive items — when to deviate from the meta build
Don't sleep on defensive items. They turn fights:
- Thornmail — vs heavy auto-attack ADC (Jinx, Vayne). Reflect damage + Grievous Wounds on tank.
- Tabi Boots — vs full AD comp. 12% auto attack damage reduction.
- Mercury's Treads — vs AP / CC comp. Tenacity + magic resistance.
- Maw of Malmortius — bruiser vs full AP. Spell shield + bonus AD on low HP.
- Zhonya's Hourglass — mage vs assassin. Stasis for 2.5 seconds + armor.
- Mercurial Scimitar — ADC vs hard CC (Zed R, Malzahar R). Removes CC + cleanses.
- Guardian Angel — ADC late game. Revive after death (4 minute cooldown).
Buy 1 defensive item by Item 3 every game. Iron players rush 6 damage items and die in 0.8 seconds to Zed.
Component spike paths — when to fight before Mythic
- BF Sword (1300 gold) — first component for AD carries. 40 AD spike.
- Sapphire Crystal (350 gold) — first mana for mages. 300 mana to spam Q.
- Pickaxe (875 gold) — 25 AD for ADCs. Lane combat spike.
- Tear of the Goddess (400 gold) — Manamune stacking start for mid mage.
- Vampiric Scepter (900 gold) — ADC sustain start. 10% lifesteal.
Don't recall on equal wave with no resources. Wait for 1300+ gold to recall and buy a meaningful component. The component spike (BF or Pickaxe) is where you should fight; the Mythic completion is where you should team fight.
Common Build-rank mistakes
- Building 6 damage items, dying to assassins in 0.8s
- Wrong Mythic for champion archetype (Eclipse on tank, Stridebreaker on assassin)
- No defensive boots by Item 2 (Tabis or Mercury's)
- Buying Item 1 → Item 2 → Item 3 without checking enemy comp damage type
- Recalling with 600 gold instead of waiting for 1300 component spike
Drill: Build path consistency for 10 games
Pick one champion. Build the same path 10 games in a row. Track win rate. Then swap one item per game and compare. By game 30 you've tested 3 build paths and know which one is highest win rate FOR YOU on that champion. This is how pros build their item knowledge — not by copying OP.GG blindly, but by testing in their solo Q matches.
